Novel Corona Virus Outbreak – Travel Disruption
Several countries across the Globe have health screening measures at airports and have implemented travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 (formerly 2019-novel coronavirus) outbreak. Measures have been applied primarily to travellers arriving from China. Current DFAT advice to travellers “Do Not Travel to China and Iran” and to exercise a high degree of caution in the Veneto region of Italy, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong & Thailand amongst the affected countries. For the Lombardi region of Italy, advice is to reconsider the need to travel.
Travellers should constantly refer to – 1. Australian Government website https://www.smartraveller.gov.au for the latest travel advice, and register their travel itineraries on the site prior to departure. Many travel suppliers and insurer’s decisions are based around this.
2. The World Health Organisation Website also publishes regular updates at: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/situation-reports
3. Their Travel Management Company for changes, reissues and for explanations of the terms & conditions from their travel suppliers (Airlines, Cruise lines, Hoteliers, etc)
4. Their Travel Insurers and their Product Disclosure Statements.
Travellers are advised to allow additional time for arrival procedures & transits or when passing through affected airports, considering temperature and health screenings. Anticipate more stringent scrutiny and reconfirm the status of flights, Cruises, with your carrier or at the airport. Follow all official directives. Do not travel if you are sick because you may risk being quarantined and testing.
Travel Insurance and cover for cancellation for the Corona Virus and COV19 Disease is now a “known event” and is NOT covered for cancellation under any new policies. Cover-More Insurance offers an ‘Optional Add On’ labelled ‘Cancel for Any Reason’. It can be added at the time of purchasing a new policy and gives added protection for future cancellations. Please speak to your dedicated Pulse Travel Manager to discuss this option.
