Etihad and Virgin Australia Cease Codeshare Arrangement in 2025

November 19th, 2025 – Etihad and Virgin Australia Confirm Cessation of Codeshare Relationship from June 2025

Etihad and Virgin Australia have officially announced the cessation of their codeshare agreement in June 2025, following the announcement that Qatar Airways intends to acquire a 25 percent stake in Virgin Australia.

Officially announced earlier this week, an Etihad representative stated that the decision “reflects a divergence in the strategic direction of the respective airlines”, and the agreement between Virgin Australia and Etihad will end on June 1, 2025.

What Does This Mean for Travellers?

For travellers who frequently take advantage of this partnership, it means that Virgin Australia flights will no longer be bookable on EY’s booking channels beyond June 1, 2025. Existing itineraries will not change and will be honoured.

Furthermore, members will no longer earn guest miles on VA-operated flights from June 1, 2025. Despite this, Etihad remains determined to continue servicing customers as best as possible, increasing flights to Sydney and Melbourne over Summer 2025 to ensure travellers can still fly with the airline they know and love.
