Qantas Reveals First Destination for A350 Aircraft

March 25th, 2025 –After many years of planning and preparation Qantas’ long-awaited ‘Project Sunrise’ is getting nearer to take-off – And they’ve finally announced where the first ultra-long haul A350 jet will be flying to once it hits Australian shores.

First announced back in 2017, Project Sunrise is Qantas’ attempt to push the limits on what’s possible in aviation, aiming to offer direct ultra-long-haul flights between Australia and places such as Europe and New York. Currently only possible with stopovers, Qantas’ goal was to provide travellers with direct, comfortable ultra-long-haul flight options, with a suite of specially designed aircraft to tackle the job.

This is where the Airbus A350-1000 was chosen. Ordered back in May 2022, these aircraft were specially designed for Qantas’ goal of ultra-long-haul flight, with dedicated relaxation and movement spaces as well as modern and comfortable seats to help alleviate the discomforts of flying for long periods of time.

Where Will the A350 Jets Be Flying First?

Eventually, Qantas aims to provide direct flights between Australia and destinations such as London and New York. At this stage, these flights are expected to become available in 2027 once Qantas has three A350 Aircraft available.

Until then, customers who are keen to get on the planes as soon as they reach Australian shores will be able to enjoy shorter flights on these ultra-long-haul aircraft, with Qantas revealing the very first aircraft will likely fly between Australia and New Zealand – Offering pilots and cabin crew the chance to train on the aircraft before all of the planes come into action.

When Will Tickets Become Available?

Qantas remains tight-lipped about when tickets will become available to jump on these highly anticipated aircraft, but you can be sure that once tickets are released, they’ll be snapped up quickly.
