Climate

Mexico boasts a diverse climate that varies by region, generally characterized by a dry season and a rainy season. The dry season, from November to April, features warm, sunny days, making it perfect for beach vacations and outdoor activities like hiking in national parks. The rainy season runs from May to October, bringing higher humidity and afternoon showers, which can be refreshing, especially in tropical areas. During this time, visitors can enjoy lush landscapes and fewer crowds, particularly in popular destinations like Cancun and Puerto Vallarta. We recommend visiting during the dry season when there’s less rain and the climate is nicer – however, if you want to avoid the crowds and get the best deals, don’t be afraid of the wet season!

Capital Cities

Mexico City, the bustling capital of Mexico, is located in the Valley of Mexico at an altitude of 2,240 meters (7,350 feet) above sea level. With a population of over 9 million, it stands as one of the largest cities in the world. The city is rich in history and culture, featuring a mix of ancient and modern attractions. Visitors can explore the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which includes the stunning Zócalo (main square) and the Templo Mayor ruins. Other highlights include the vibrant neighbourhoods of Coyoacán and Roma, the impressive Palacio de Bellas Artes, and the world-class museums like the Museo Nacional de Antropología. Mexico City is also known for its incredible culinary scene, offering everything from street tacos to fine dining, making it a must-visit destination for food lovers.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

Mexico is the land of bright colours, bright flavours and bright people – while you’ll have an incredible experience in Mexico no matter how you choose to travel, there are a few important tips and tricks to keep in mind, that will make your experience more memorable.

  • Learn Restroom Codes – Mexicans speak Spanish, and their bathroom codes are also in spanish – Meaning ‘M’ and ‘F’ are not necessarily ‘Male’ and ‘Female’. Instead, look out for the sign ‘H’ or ‘C’ for the men’s bathroom (referring to ‘hombres’ or ‘caballeros’), and the sign ‘M’ for the women’s bathroom (meaning ‘mujeres’).
  • Toss Your TP – Another thing different about Mexican bathrooms compared to other bathrooms, is that they don’t flush their Toilet Paper – they throw it in the bin, instead. While this may seem foreign and a little odd, the local plumbing just isn’t necessarily built to handle toilet paper, so follow the proper procedure and toss it in the bin when you’re done.
  • Get Local Car Insurance – Whenever you’re hiring a car in Mexico, expect to have to purchase local liability insurance before being allowed to rent your car. You’ll have to purchase this whether you get insurance online, have car insurance in your home country or if your credit card covers it – so ensure you bring extra cash to pay for this if you want to drive.
  • Don’t Lose Face – The Vietnamese are very conscious of how they’re perceived by other people, so it’s important to “save face” and avoid situations that might cause loss of dignity or respect. The simple way to do this is to respect the culture, keep a cool head and try to avoid confrontation or awkward situations.
  • Avoid Tap Water – Mexico’s water is not necessarily safe to drink from the tap, so avoid tap water unless told otherwise. Instead, boil your water or purchase water bottles. Your hotel or resort may also have refill stations available to help cut down on the waste.
