    It’s 1989. It cost about $25 to fill your car up, the World Wide Web was invented, Nintendo and Gameboy were first released, and Funky Cold Medina and Love Shack were top of the charts. This year, Pulse Travel celebrates its 30th anniversary – a milestone well worth noting at a time when travel is changing rapidly, and the online world is having an enormous impact on the industry. During this time, it’s fair to say that Pulse Travel has not missed a beat.

    1989 was full of great things, and the launch of Pulse Travel (formerly known as South Brisbane Travel) was definitely one of them – especially for Brisbane travel buffs. Established by original employees/partners, Anthea and Stan Klinakis, who were joined a couple of years later by Susan Sherrington and then Rebecca Rayfield (notably, all four are still with the company to this day), the business was located in a tiny office in the heart of cosmopolitan West End. Back then, Pulse provided leisure travel services to West End locals and the Greek community.

    Fast forward to 2019, and Pulse Travel has left behind its tiny Boundary Street nook, spreading its wings to become a large corporate travel provider, now located in Browning Street. With a dedicated, long-standing team, Pulse Travel couldn’t be more grateful to its loyal clientele who have continued to support them over three decades.

    “This anniversary is a celebration of the company’s success over the last 30 years,” explained Pulse Travel Director, Stan Klinakis. “We couldn’t have done it without the trust and loyalty of our valued clients and our extraordinary team. We recognise that our success is directly linked to continual referrals from our clients. My dad always told me to look after our customers – as one happy client will tell five new prospects, and referrals are the biggest compliment a company can receive.”

    The jewel in the crown

    So what’s the secret to thirty and fabulous? According to Stan, it’s the ‘frosting’. In 1989 at the company’s inception, he founded the ‘Diamond Club’, designed to show his appreciation to staff by gifting them a one carat diamond for every 10 years of service. To date, they have six team members on one carat, three team members on two carats, and one lucky team member has actually received three diamonds. That’s a total of 10 carats over 30 years – and most of the team are still with Pulse Travel to this day.
